Smart Cycling Workshop

Does sharing the road with motorized traffic make you Nervous?
Do you want to improve your bicycling skills?

 

Then you should check out "Smart Cycling" offered by the Sarasota Manatee Bicycling Club.   Your workshop is FREE*, fun, exciting and educational.

"Smart Cycling" is taught by League Coaching Instructors (LCIs) - trained and certified bicycle safety instructors who have completed rigorous teaching and bike handling instruction provided by the nation's leading bike authority - League of America Bicyclists.
You'll enjoy the workshop as you cover the following topics in the classroom and outside on your bike. Highlights of the day are:

IN-THE-CLASSROOM 

  • You and Your Bike:
      Bike selection and fit, helmet fit, cycling gear
  • Crashes:
    Why they occur, who is at fault, and what you can do to avoid them
  • Principles of Traffic Law:

    *  Your rights and responsibilities on the road

    *  Riding on the Right

    *  Yielding when crossing traffic or changing lanes

    *  Speed, Lane , and Intersection positioning

ON-THE-BIKE PARKING LOT DRILLS
AND CHECK-OUT RIDE

  • ABC Quick Check: 
    A Pre-ride checklist before you start your ride
  • Gear Selection and Pedaling Cadence:  
    Riding efficiently with less fatigue
  • Riding Conditions:
    Group riding, riding at night, and in the rain
  • Skills Drills:
    A series of handling and road hazard-avoidance techniques

Whether you're new to the sport, returning from a hiatus or
an experienced rider you'll finish the workshop knowing 
the time was well spent.

FREE Workshop* 

This is a free workshop though a $25 advanced deposit is required and refunded when you complete the session.

Please Note

You'll do a short group road ride led by LCIs to practice what you've learned.  Bring your bicycle (in good working condition), a helmet, and water for the drills and the group ride - you must be able to ride at least 10 mph.

Covid -19 Precautions

  • Masks must be worn when in the classroom
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided
  • Social distancing observed
  • Tables and chairs will be sanitized prior to and following class
  • On-line registration only
  • Class size limited to six students and two instructors
