Learn how to ride safely and confidently on the road and qualify for the League of American Bicyclist LCI Education Seminar in December 2024

What is the Smart Cycling—Bike Handling Skills seminar?

• The bike handling class is a prerequisite for the LCI Education Seminar, which is sponsored by the Sarasota Manatee Bicycle Club (SMBC).
• The class teaches you the basic and advanced skills of bike handling, such as starting, stopping, turning, shifting, scanning, signaling, and avoiding hazards.
• The class also prepares you for the written quiz that is part of this class.

Why should you join the bike handling class?

• The bike handling class will help you improve your confidence and safety on the road.
• The class will also enable you to join the LCI Education Seminar, which is a comprehensive course on bike safety, education, and advocacy.
• The seminar is a requirement for becoming a League Cycling Instructor (LCI), who can teach bike safety courses to others.
• The seminar is also a great opportunity to meet other cyclists and bike advocates in your community.

How can you join the bike handling class?

• The bike handling class will be held on October 19, 2024, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Lee Wetherington Club in Sarasota Florida.
• The class is free for SMBC members and $20 for non-members.
• To register for the online class, you need to complete the online modules and the written quiz that are available at the following link:  https://learn.bikeleague.org/p/smartcycling
  
• You need to score at least 85% on the quiz to pass.
• You must bring the certificate of completion with you to the class.
• You also need to bring your own bike, helmet, and water bottle.
• Space is limited, so please register as soon as possible.
